It's a beautiful day in SoCal - 60 degrees driving to work, mountains on the horizon.  Flowers everywhere and it's going to be in the 80's.  Can't beat this!

Palma Violets.  Saw them open for Franz Ferdinand last week - at Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown - and besides being drunk, they were pretty good.  The bass player is crazy - they're usually the quiet band member.  This guy was all over the stage, singing, dancing, jumping.  The drink helped- but he was great.  Here's a link to the band:  http://www.palmaviolets.co.uk/

And then there's Franz Ferdinand Franz Ferdinand.  Wow.  I've been to a lot of concerts - but this was the best.  And I really mean it.  They love what they do, they're great musicians, they have fun and they sound awesome live.

There's Alex in the picture.  Awesome singer and showman.  I guess the best part of the concert was how small and weird the venue was.  Pappy & Harriet's is in the middle of the desert.  Seriously.  It's a roadhouse - great food, sketchy and normal people - just a great place.  We and 100 of our closest friends saw the bands and it was wonderful.  Better than 1st Ave., 2nd Street Entry, the Barrowlands, Edinburgh Playhouse, Summerfest... and better than Bruce Springsteen live, better than U2 live and better than Big Country live.

Seriously - I did not zoom in my phone camera - we were that close.

Both bands were in SoCal for Coachella and I'm sure they rocked that too.  I'm mostly glad that I'm not old enough to be the mother of any band members.

Happy Friday.

The beginning

Listen in wonder.  That's what I do.  I am amazed at all the great music out there - and want to share it.  Listen in wonder will pass on the up and coming bands - as well as obscure old standards.

Sit back and listen.

Today we have the Smith Westerns.  They just played Coachella and boy were they great.  Their new song, Varsity, has a great melody.  The music and vocals flow together like a river.  They're one of my favorite up and comings.  Here's a link to their website:

They have a new album coming out and I think you should check it out.

Always listening - kj
